On Thursday, February 7, 2013, the American Association of Birth Centers (AABC) is joining with the American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM) to host a congressional briefing in the U.S. Capitol.
The briefing will focus on the valuable role midwives and birth centers play in improving care for women while reducing health care costs and the rate of cesarean births. AABC and ACNM will discuss a new study to be published in the Journal of Midwifery Women's Health on January 31, 2013, which shows women who receive care at midwife-led birth centers incur lower medical costs and are less likely to have cesarean births compared to women who give birth at hospitals.
