The PDR is a web-based system that can be accessed from any device with an Internet connection.
The data are stored on a secured, password protected web based platform that meets ONC certification standards for privacy and security.
The PDR is not limited to birth centers and midwives. It is designed to collect comprehensive data on home, birth center, and hospital births. It also collects data on all types of birth providers: CNMs, CPMs, Family Physicians, and Obstetricians – anyone providing maternity care
If your practice does not want to use the full PDR, you can elect to use only the required fields. In that case you will see only the approximately 50 required fields as you enter data over the course of pregnancy and postpartum care, which include basic perinatal outcome data and data describing transfers.
Although the basic foundation questions will not be modified or deleted, AABC’s research team can work with you to make the PDR work optimally for your practice.
For example, if you do not want to use all of the questions, but find that just using the required fields is not enough, we can add back certain non-required questions that you do want to collect.
You can choose to make additional fields required or make custom fields required.
If you want to routinely collect a data element that is not included in the PDR, those can be added.
If your birth center wants to add variables for a specific research study that you will be conducting, AABC’s research team will work with you to design your optional questions in ways that will result in useful statistics.
"The PDR is a valuable tool that allows birth centers to collect, in a systematic fashion, data about what is happening in their individual practices. It also gathers the data nationally so research can be done to evaluate the birth center concept."
