Spiritual Aspects of Birthing

What is Spiritual Midwifery?

Spiritual Midwives are trained ministers of the seminary whose clairvoyant abilities are an essential ingredient in their spiritual counseling and healing with birthing families. They are trained professional spiritual counselors and spiritual healers. A spiritual midwife smoothes the way through prayer/meditation and spirit to spirit communication for the spirit to enter its body. She/he uses intuition and one-to-one contact with the Supreme Being to say "hello" to the importance of the body-mind-spirit connection.

The mission of the spiritual midwife is to communicate, teach and heal spirit to spirit. She/he operates off of these principles: birth is a spiritual event manifesting in a physical form; she/he respects the prime directive of non-interference between the spirit being birthed and its goals for its personal and spiritual life experience. Spiritual Midwives help the family create a sanctuary so what the family wants can come true.

The Role of the Spiritual Midwife

The specific role, duties and involvement of the spiritual midwife is by mutual agreement between the birthing family and spiritual midwife and each assignment is specifically tailored to the needs of the family. The roles defined below are usually offered in a typical Birth Support Package. Each family picks and chooses the roles a spiritual midwife will play according to their needs. A spiritual midwife serves the birthing family on the phone, in private consultation, in the classroom, in the doctor's office, in the hospital, at home or at the free standing birth center.
