Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) is responsible for almost 350,000 deaths annually in the United States. SCA does not discriminate by age and affects children, teenagers, and adults alike. The majority of these incidents do not occur in hospital. As the rate of pregnancy-related deaths continues to rise, so does the number of pregnant women affected by SCA. The number one cause of pregnancy-related deaths from 2011-2013 was cardiovascular disease. While most who experience SCA die within minutes, rapid treatment with an AED can be lifesaving. For every minute that a normal heartbeat is not restored, chances of survival decrease by 7-10%. According to the American Heart Association, AED use in pregnancy is safe for both mother and baby. Join us to learn about recent recommendations for handling SCA in pregnancy and how you can protect your clients, employees, and visitors through the development of an AED program.
