Mary Lawlor, CPM, LM, executive director of the National Association of Certified Professional Midwives and Ginger Breedlove, PhD, CNM, APRN, FACNM, past president of the American College of Nurse-Midwives will present on the development of U.S. MERA and discuss areas of impact including licensing for Certified Professional Midwives (CPMs), federal Medicaid reimbursement and increased opportunity for collaboration among midwives in birth centers.

About the Presenters

Ginger Breedlove

Ginger Breedlove, PhD, CNM, APRN, FACNM
Ginger Breedlove is the past president of the American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM), a professor of graduate nursing at the Eleanor Wade Custer School of Nursing at Shenandoah University in Winchester, VA and is the new SVP of Clinical Operations for Baby + Company. She cofounded the first freestanding birth center in Kansas and established the first nurse-midwifery practice in the greater Kansas City metro area. Ginger also co-established and served as program director of the University of Kansas nurse-midwifery education program and has served as a volunteer leader of the Kansas March of Dimes, a charter member of the Kansas Maternal Child Health Coalition, and a consultant to AMOS Health and Hope in Managua, Nicaragua.

Mary Lawlor, MA, CPM, LM, NHCM
Mary Lawlor is the executive director of the National Association of Certified Professional Midwives (NACPM). She is owner and founder of the the Monadnock Birth Center in New Hampshire and has been a homebirth midwife for 29 years. She was active in successful legislative efforts to license midwives in both Vermont and New Hampshire, and has served as a Midwife Advisor to the Vermont Office of Professional Regulation for 15 years. Ms. Lawlor was the founding president of the NACPM. She serves as national policy advisor to the Midwives and Mothers in Action (MAMA) Campaign, a coalition spearheaded by NACPM, advocating to the U.S. Congress and Federal agencies for increased access for women across the country to Certified Professional Midwife services and high-quality, high-value maternity care.
