Birth Center Accreditation

CABC Staff, Site Visitors & Commisioners

The CABC Staff is responsible for administering the process of accreditation, assisting in workshops to help centers assess readiness for accreditation, and maintaining confidentiality and impartiality throughout the process.

The CABC Site Visitors are volunteers who conduct an on-site evaluation of each center that applies for accreditation. They are trained professionals who are, or have been, directly involved in the operation of birth centers as practitioners, administrators, consulting specialists, or advisors.

The Commissioners are volunteers representing a balance of professional and consumer advocates in obstetrics, family practice, nurse-midwifery, nursing, neonatology, pediatrics, and public health. Commissioners establish the policies and procedures of the CABC and serve on accreditation panels to evaluate each applicant center's compliance with the established standards.

The staff, site visitors and commissioners all have a special dedication and commitment to developing and maintaining quality services to the childbearing families who receive care in birth centers.
