Call in Support of International Women's Day!

In Celebration of International Women's Day, we need to join other partner organizations to make our voices heard on Capitol Hill on behalf of our membership and the women, babies, individuals, and families they care for.

AABC is joining forces with Every Mother Counts, ACNM, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and the National Rural Health Association to raise awareness for the Improving Access to Maternity Care Act, S.783.

The U.S. is one of just 13 countries around the globe - the only developed country - where the maternal mortality rate is increasing.  One in five women in the U.S. live in healthcare provider shortage areas, which can lead to dangerous delays obtaining needed care during and following pregnancy and birth.  We must work to improve this!  Passage of S.783 is one mechanism to help alleviate the significant pressures on many rural and urban communities, health systems, and women in need of access to qualified maternity care providers.

We need your help!  Please take a moment to weigh in with your Senators and encourage them to support this impportant, cost-neutral, bipartisan legislation.

Call their offices and ask them to vote YES for Improving Access to Maternity Care Act, S.783.

Here are talking points in support of S.783:

  • The U.S. is the only developed country where the maternal mortality rate is increasing!
  • Rural and urban hospitals are closing maternity units every week so shortages are getting worse.
  • 1 in 5 women in the U.S. live in healthcare provider shortage areas and half of U.S. counties have NO maternity care providers.
  • Support this bill, S.783, a bipartisan, budget-neutral measure that would help address the shortage of maternity providers.

We are also encouraging members who reside in states with Senators who sit on the HELP Committee to "tweet" at their Senators today, Thursday, March 8th, using some variation of the following hashtags.  #S783  #MidwivesMakeaDifference  #GivingBirthinAmerica  and  #MaternityCareShortages
