AABC Launches Search for New Faculty Member for How to Start a Birth Center Workshops

AABC has launched a search for a CNM/CM to join the faculty of the How to Start a Birth Center (HSBC) workshops. This workshop is an intensive course that teaches attendees to do just that – start their own birth center. From budgets and quality improvement to marketing and feasibility this workshop really delivers. In 2018 the workshop will be taught in two formats: in-person and online.

This new faculty member will co-teach with Brianna Bennett, MBA and Amy Johnson-Grass, ND, LN, CPM, LM, and will replace retiring faculty Kathryn Schrag, MSN, CNM, FNP and Maureen Darcey, CNM. This is a paid position.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is excited to co-teach a two-day in-person workshop 1-2 times per year
  • Can commit to the position for a three year minimum
  • Is passionate about birth centers
  • Has at least three years of experience in an accredited birth center
  • Is knowledgeable about the business of birth centers
  • Is a dynamic speaker and facilitator with teaching/presenting experience
  • Will actively participate in workshop committee calls
  • Will work creatively with the committee to improve the workshops for the participants
  • Is reliable and responsible with deadlines and commitments
  • Has experience in adult education and curriculum development (preferred)Is a nurse-midwife with administrative experience (preferred)

The hiring process:

  • April 1: Deadline to submit CV with letter of interest to AABC
  • April: Workshops Committee will meet to review candidates and select those to interview
  • May/June: Workshop Committee will interview semi-finalists candidates via GoToMeeting and select finalists.
  • July/August: Finalists will be given access to the online course to review material and presentations. A post-course interview will be scheduled with Workshop Committee members.
  • October 3-4: Finalists will co-present with Primary Faculty at the HSBC workshop
  • October 31: Final decisions made
  • 2019: New faculty will co-present at 2 in-person workshops and co-teach online course.
