  3. Visit the AABC Booth at the ACNM Convention

1. AABC Updates Position Statement on VBAC

The American Association of Birth Centers has updated its position statement on VBAC in light of newer evidence and lack of access to options for labor and birth after cesarean.  In the position statement, AABC affirms its support for VBAC in a supportive environment with informed decision-making, including an undertanding of the risks and benefits, access to understandable information, and discussion with care providers.  Ongoing data collection and research are essential in the effort to weigh benefits and harms of labor and birth after cesaraean in community settings (i.e. in a birth or at home).

In conjunction with the position statement, AABC has also issued the following supporting documents:

Thank you to the task force that developed the statement and resources: Jackie Griggs, MS, CNM, CPM, IBCLC; Nancy Niemczyk, PhD, CNM; Christy Peterson, MSN, CNM, ARNP; Carol Snapp, DNSc, CNM; and Moira Tannenbaum, MSN, APRN, CNM, IBCLC.

AABC will award at least 10 scholarships with travel stipends for the 2019 AABC Birth Institute. Eligibility Criteria:

  • Birth center provider, owner, staff, student or otherwise demonstrate involvement in the birth center community
  • Identify as a person of color, native, indigenous, and/or LGBTQ
  • Special consideration will be given to applicants attending the Birth Institute for the first time
