Marketing for Your Birth Center
Bring your birth center marketing questions to this office hours session with IRC leaders Carla Morrow and Cynthia Flynn. They'll offer guidance and share their experience to help you enhance your outreach and grow your birth center.
AABC membership is required for IRC Office Hours. Registration is free and open to all AABC members.
IRC Leaders
Carla Morrow, CNM, DNP
Carla is a CNM with over 25 years of experience providing comprehensive care to women and families. She holds a Master of Science in Nursing from Texas Christian University and a Women's Health Nurse Practitioner certificate from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas. After receiving her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from Baylor University, she established the Fort Worth Birthing & Wellness Center in 2013. Since its accreditation in 2014, the birth center has garnered numerous community awards for its commitment to excellence in care.
Carla is a dedicated advocate for sustainable midwifery practices and enjoys the business aspects of running a birth center. She actively contributes to the midwifery community by leading the Texas Sustainability Committee with the Coalition of Texas Birth Centers and serving on the AABC Industry Relations Committee.
Cynthia Flynn, PhD, CNM, FACNM
Cynthia has extensive management experience, having served as executive director of The Birth Center, Bryn Mawr, PA; the general director of Family Health and Birth Center, Washington DC, where she negotiated the merger of the birth center with a Federally Qualified Health Center in order to provide stable financing; and founder/owner of Columbia Women’s Clinic and Birth Center, Kennewick, WA.
At the national level, she is a past president of the American Association of Birth Centers (AABC), and serves on the AABC Government Affairs and Industry Relations Committees as well as the Legislative and Policy Committee of the Midwives Association of Washington State (MAWS). Additionally, she has provided consulting for organizations wishing to start, expand, sustain or replicate midwifery practices and/or birth centers in order to increase access for healthy women to a proven method of obtaining a safe delivery.
Heather Eckstein, LM, CPM, IBCLC
Heather brings a rich tapestry of experience to the birth community, starting as a labor doula in 2005 before answering her calling to midwifery. Her diverse background includes serving as a La Leche League Leader, ICAN (International Cesarean Awareness Network) Leader, homebirth midwife, and working in birth centers throughout the country. She is currently the Clinical Director for Columbia Birth Center. Holding a bachelor’s degree in Midwifery and a master’s in Maternal-Child Health Systems, Heather is also a licensed midwife and lactation consultant.
She is deeply passionate about supporting new parents through every stage of their journey, championing the midwifery model of care with its focus on evidence-informed practice and empowering families. Her belief in birth as an empowering event, coupled with strong support for VBAC and vaginal birth for multiples, highlights a commitment to accessible and individualized care.
