Take Your Career to the Next Level

Birth centers are an integrated part of the health care system and are guided by principles of prevention, sensitivity, safety, appropriate medical intervention and cost-effectiveness. While the practice of midwifery and the support of physiologic birth and newborn transition may occur in other settings, this is the exclusive model of care in a birth center.

The birth center setting allows midwives to practice in their full scope with autonomy and dignity. The How to Start a Birth Center Workshop grants you the opportunity to learn what opening and operating a birth center looks like and how it can change the trajectory of your future as a midwife.

About the Workshop

AABC's How to Start a Birth Center Workshop will teach you all of the key information for opening a birth center. Wherever you are in your journey - whether you know you'd like to open a birth center or just want to explore what your future avenues can look like - this workshop is here to guide you.

In this workshop, you'll learn about:

  • birth center operations
  • site selection and facility design
  • financial management and budgeting
  • community assessment
  • marketing
  • next steps
  • and more!

We offer the HSBC Workshop in various formats to optimize your learning experience!

No matter what format you choose to take the course, our seasoned faculty will be available to answer all of your questions and provide support!
