- HIPAA Information Security Training for Birth Centers - This training module provides information about HIPAA Security and Privacy rules and how these relate to birth center practice. It highlights practical steps that birth center team members can take to protect their clients’ privacy. It is intended for onboarding and annual training of all birth center team members (clinical and non-clinical) who interact with clients or their health data.
- Infection Control for Birth Centers - This training module covers prevention of infectious disease exposures in the birth center setting and the steps a team member should take in the event of an exposure. It covers bloodborne pathogens (BBPs) as well as airborne and droplet exposures such as COVID-19, influenza, and pertussis, and addresses use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and cleaning and disinfecting the birth center. It is intended for onboarding and annual training of all birth center team members (clinical and non-clinical), as well as any contractors who assist with housekeeping, laundry, or other functions that may involve contact with infectious material.
- Safe Use of Medications in the Birth Center Setting - This training module focuses on safe use of medications in the birth center setting. It is intended for all clinical team members who prescribe, prepare, or administer medications and covers general principles as well as specific information about all intrapartum, postpartum, and newborn medications that are commonly used in birth centers.
- Understanding the Birth Center Laboratory - This is a two-part training module designed to educate individuals who perform laboratory-related duties about policies, procedures, and best practices for common tests performed in the birth center. Part 1, Point of Care Tests, is intended for all team members who perform or interpret point-of-care tests such as urine pregnancy tests, urine dipsticks, glucometer tests, hemoglobin tests, and influenza or strep tests. This may include medical assistants, birth assistants, registered nurses, midwives, and physicians. Part 2, Provider Performed Microscopy, is intended for licensed providers who perform vaginal wet prep, KOH, and fern tests, generally midwives and physicians.
- Birth Center Transfer and Transport: Optimal Practice for Safe and Satisfying Transitions of Care - This training module addresses key information birth center providers need about transfer and transport. It covers types of transfer, collaboration with Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and hospital-based care providers, and best practices for smooth transport continuous quality improvement. It is intended for all birth center team members, clinical and non-clinical.
This education program has been approved for up to 6 contact hours (CEs). By completing the Provider Training package, you will earn 6 CEs, including 1 pharmacology CE.
