Webinar Wednesday: Empowering Birthing Centers with Neonatal Advanced Life Support
Presentation Description
The Red Cross Neonatal Advanced Life Support (NALS) program, developed with the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN), addresses critical gaps in neonatal resuscitation training across diverse birth settings. With a focus on positive pressure ventilation (PPV), the course changes the resuscitation paradigm for birthing centers from compressions to ventilation in the “Golden Minute” after birth.
As maternity care deserts grow (now affecting over 35% of U.S. counties) birthing centers are increasingly vital in delivering frontline care. These areas face higher rates of preterm births, inadequate prenatal care, and neonatal complications. The NALS program equips birthing center professionals with the clinical skills and confidence to manage newborn emergencies from birth through post-resuscitation care. By empowering teams to make fast, evidence-based decisions, NALS helps drive better outcomes for newborns.
