Pennsylvania - Certified Nurse-Midwife

Posted By: Kate Bauer Career Center,
Lebanon Valley Birth Center (Womelsdorf, PA)

Join our autonomous, 15-year-old, midwife owned practice in the Pennsylvania Dutch country. This vibrant and growing practice is turning away women because we need another CNM.

We attend about 120 births annually; about 10 percent are homebirths with the rest in our licensed, CABC accredited birth center or our collaborative hospital (providing continuity of care). We offer water birth.

We provide full-scope midwifery care to a diverse population, the majority of whom are from the Plain community (i.e. Amish, Mennonite). Nearly all are committed to physiologic out-of-hospital birth and to a model of self-determination and partnership in health care. In addition, you will have the opportunity to give care for some unique health conditions. Nearly 100% breastfeed.

We are interested in a full time, warm, self-motivated CNM who will work well with our families and the team, will function autonomously and who has excellent verbal and written communication skills and attention to detail. You’ll be joining two full time and one part time CNMs who work in the office and take call, as well as our nurses, lactation consultant, and administration team. There is also the possibility of being part of our management team.

Minimum qualifications

  • C.N.M. and R.N. license (required in PA)
  • Current BLS and NRP certification
  • Experience, preferably in full scope midwifery care (including newborn care and out-of-hospital births)
  • Physical ability to do the work in this setting
  • Must attain hospital privileges at our collaborative hospital

  • Current C.N.M. license in PA
  • Familiar and comfortable with out of hospital birth
  • Experience/knowledge of holistic health
  • Computer: Microsoft Office (Macintosh), hospital uses Epic

We enjoy great relationships with a number of providers in our region beginning with our Medical Director and the collaborative OB/CNM practice at our transferring hospital. We participate in OB department meetings for policy and procedure development. A local MFM service does ultrasounds at our office and their perinatologists are available for consultation. The Clinic for Special Children provides consultation to us and comprehensive care to children and adults with genetic and other complex medical disorders.

This is a beautiful semi-rural area with many lively growing towns. It is close to Lancaster, Harrisburg, Philadelphia, Lebanon and Reading (and two-three hours from New York City and Washington, D.C.). Many different area school districts are nearby. A life-work balance may be best obtained if you live within 20-30 minutes of the birth center, thereby taking call from home and the local area.

Don’t miss this opening in our exemplary midwifery practice serving our wonderful families!
